A series of photographic material including ten albums (AL0404 – AL0409, AL2410 – AL2413) principally of photographs but also containing postcards, cuttings, engravings and drawings, compiled by W. D. Caroe of Caroe and Martin architectural practice. Six of the albums (AL0404 – AL0409) contain predominantly English sites upon which the architect W D Caroe had worked or which he considered exemplars of architectural style and type.
Three of the albums (AL2410 – AL2412) compiled by W.D. Caroe, show examples of architecture outside the UK. Some of the photographs were taken by W.D. Caroe but it is thought that the buildings represented in the album were not designed by him. It is likely that the albums were maintained as a reference resource to inform his own work or to record a memory of places that he had visited.
Also in the series are a set of mounted prints primarily of churches, and a set of photographic prints and captions exhibited in the R.I.B.A Heinz Gallery in 1991. A handlist is available.
