Description
This series comprises 10 bound volumes of over 97 plans relating to the architectrual competition for new Courts of Justice building on The Strand, London. The competition, eventually won by G E Street, was one of the most important of the 19th century, and the building is now known as the Royal Courts of Justice.
Apart from G E Street, including his revised plans of 1868, entries by H R Abraham, E W Barry, R Brandon, W Burges, H B Garling, H F Lockwood, G G Scott, J P Seddon are represented in these volumes.
Also with the plans is a series of 22 photographs of elevation plans.
Archival History
The plans were created by the Courts of Justice Commission Office, 33 Lincoln's Inn Fields and date from 1865 to 1871.
The plans formerly had references beginning with a 'works' prefix.
The series was transferred to the NMR Archives from the English Heritage Plans Room in 2000.
