Description

The collection comprises a spiral-bound album containing 10 large-format black and white photographs showing interiors of the House of Commons presumably taken in the 1950s or 1960s (the date is not stated). It includes explanations of the complex lighting and dimming systems installed by the General Electric Company (GEC). All images have detailed captions and derive from GEC. An image on the first page is missing.

The photographs show: the Speaker's Chair, skylight, ceiling, Lobby, Members' entrance to Lobby, Division Lobbies, Members' Writing Room, Prime Minister's Room, Members' Lounge, Reporters' Rooms, and dimmer control panel.

Also in the collection is a single Ministry of Works photograph, dated 1956, showing an interior of the House of Commons. It has the reference G/6102/3.

Archival History

The album was transferred from the NMR library to NMR archives in 2009. It originally had the library reference: 914.21: 725.11 House of Commons.
