Description

A series of fifty-two (52) digital colour photographs showing sports and recreation sites in Manchester, and Rochdale, Trafford, Salford and Stockport.

All of the photographs were taken by Simon Inglis, and 32 were published in his book 'Played in Manchester' (2004).

The majority of the photographs are exterior or general views. There is a good range of site types including cricket and football grounds, stadiums, racecourse buildings, swimming pools and various sports pavilions. Several public houses and sport-themed pub signs are also shown.

Of interest are three images of the Manchester Ice Palace building, Britain's oldest surviving ice rink structure, photographed in 2004 before alterations to the original Derby Street facade.
