The collection contains seven folders of (mainly) colour photographs of historic buildings in the care of the Property Services Agency of the Department of the Environment in 1983.
These are the original prints used to create the 3-volume illustrated publication 'PSA Historic Buildings Register', Vols.I - III published in 1983-4 which "is drawn from a record of historic buildings prepared for maintenance within PSA by its Conservation Unit".
This set of prints is incomplete. Sites represented are restricted to the Midlands, Wales, Devon and Cornwall, and Hampshire and Wiltshire. The whereabouts of the remaining images is not known. There are, however, images of buildings in this collection which do not appear in the published register and the quality of the prints in their uncropped state is much better than in their published form. No negatives for these prints is known to exist.
Many vernacular buildings are represented as well as military and ecclesiastical structures including barracks, dispensaries, officers mess, forts, schools, customs & excise, post offices, shops and all other forms of government buildings whether leased or freehold including statues and monuments.
There are 525 dry-mounted prints mounted on card with up to three on a sheet.
A handlist is available.
The collection was transferred to Archive from the NMR Library in 2008.
