Description

A series of circa 13,000 35mm slides taken or collected by Roy Gilyard-Beer OBE MA (1912-1984) between circa 1960 and 1983. Gilyard-Beer was an archaeologist and Inspector of Ancient Monuments. The slides assessed here reflect his professional interests, notably medieval and especially monastic buildings as well as castles, abbeys, domestic buildings etc. The slides are predominantly record photography but also include some photographic copies of plans and reconstruction drawings. The series contains a sizeable proportion of non-English photography including sites in the other home nations as well as Europe.
