Description
The Warcop Army Training Estate project was undertaken by English Heritage York Office Aerial survey section between July and September 2002. It forms part of English Heritage's National Mapping Programme (NMP). The project area covers the Ministry of Defence's Army Training Estate in Warcop, Cumbria. The project was set up at the request of Defence Estates who need to produce an Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP) for the army range. The area covers approximately 65 square kilometres, extending into seven 1:10,000 scale Ordnance Survey maps: NY71NW, NY71NE, NY72NW, NY72NE, NY72SW, NY72SE, NY82SW. (NY82SW did not produce an overlay as the area was archaeologically sterile) The aim of the project is to produce a comprehensive record of archaeological sites from prehistory to modern times, at a scale of 1:10,000, through interpretation and mapping of features visible as cropmarks and earthworks on air photographs.
