An investigation into the earthworks within the park and gardens was carried out by English Heritage during May-August 2003 at the request of Swindon Borough Council. The request resulted from the council's bid for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to carry out a restoration of the park and gardens. The objective of the investigation was to carry out an analytical survey to provide an earthwork plan of the entire park at 1:2500 scale, with certain areas planned to 1:1000 scale, with an analytical report. This was required to assist in the management plan for the park's restoration.
