A survey of the Ministry of Defence freehold at Willsworthy (AF1127435) was undertaken in the summer of 1998 by RCHME (Exeter). It formed part of the integrated land management plan compiled on behalf of the MoD by RPS Clouston. This plan, revised in March 2001, articulated a number of actions aimed at defining the nature of the archaeological resource and promoting its conservation. To fulfill some of these actions, an Archaeological Baseline Condition Survey was carried out between November 2000 and September 2001. It was undertaken by EH Field Monument Wardens and the Archaeological Investigation Section. The survey involved the revisiting of all previously recorded upstanding archaeological features at which time they were assessed for active damage and potential threat. Foot and Mouth Disease restrictions, imposed during February 2001, delayed completion of fieldwork until September 2001.
