Description

An album of 84 late Victorian photographs and a watercolour mostly of foreign locations and possibly compiled following a holiday or tour.

About half the foreign views are of Alpine locations in Germany (Mer du Glace; Aiguille Verte; Wiesbaden and Schwalbach), Switzerland (Chillon, including Chillon Castle; Gorge du Trient a Vernayaz; Friburgh; Le Chateau de la Schadau; Thoune, including Chateau Rougemont; and Oberhofen) and France (Chimonix).

The remaining foreign material is distinctly 'tourist' in nature, incorporating well known buildings in Rome (Church of San Pietro in Vincoli; St Peter's Basilica; Sistine Chapel; Vatican Museum; Appian Way; and Vespasian's Arch); Florence (Loggia dei Lanzi and Palazzo Vecchio); Pisa (Campo Santa); Siena (Siena Cathedral - most of these images are blind stamped with the name of the photographer, Gav Paolo Lombardi) and Nice. There are also views of County Cork, Eire (Blackrock Castle and Queenstown); and Edinburgh, Scotland (Dean Bridge; Sir Walter Scott's monument; Rosslyn Chapel).

English coverage is confined to views of Netley Abbey, Hampshire, taken in 1887; Worcester Cathedral; Windsor Castle, including interiors of St George's Chapel; the River Dart, Devon (on the same page as Netley Abbey and possibly incorrectly attributed); and a house at 17 Upton Park, Slough, Berkshire.

The album has four loose images, including a watercolour of a probably foreign location, stored at the back.
