Description

An album of 12 pages containing 12 black and white photographs.

Each photograph is captioned and there is a title and the dates of the major events in the hospitals history on the inside front cover. The majority of the photographs show the hospital; two are of the attached Nightingale Training School

There is one photograph of the undamaged hospital in September 1939 and one of the Royal party visiting the bombed hospital in 1940, all the remainder are undated.

The other photographs show damage which is recorded as occurring in the first three raids to hit the hospital, in September 1940. It is possibly that all the photographs date from this time as they appear to have been collected as a set to illustrate the damage. None show fire damage from incendiary bombs that hit the hospital later in the war.

The album contains photographs from a number of press agencies and unknown sources and was probably compiled by a member of staff of St Thomas's as the caption on page 6 refers to 'our new Out Patients Department'. The press agency photographs are stamped on the reverse
