An album containing 126 black and white prints of foreign locations, by various commercial photographers. The photographs were collected between September and November 1883, when Bedford Lemere senior went on a European tour or holiday. As such, they give a good indication of his taste in terms of architectural photography.
Subject matter is mainly architectural, with some landscape views. The album includes images of Brussels, Antwerp, Cologne, the Rhine, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Baden Baden, Strasbourg, Heidelburg, the Alps, Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, Milan, Turin, Genoa, Pisa, Rome, Tivoli, Florence, Bologna, Venice, Padua and Verona. There are also images of New York, Boston, Washington and Philadelphia, and two photographs of the Niagara Falls, although there is no indication that Bedford Lemere visited these locations.
The frontispiece of the album has the inscription: 'Bedford Lemere sailed from Harwich 18th Sept 1883'.
