Although described as an album, this is actually a portfolio of probably 20th-century date made to accommodate 47 mid-19th century albumen prints mounted on card which appear to have come from a disbound album, the leather spine of which has been attached to the portfolio. In addition to the prints there is a modern typescript list of captions.
The prints are mounted on boards, each credited with the photographer, P H Delamotte; the publisher, Crystal Palace Art Union; and the printer, Negretti and Zambra, who had the photographic franchise at the Palace. The list of captions is also stuck on a board. The top, bottom and non-binding edges of the boards have traces of gilding; the bound edge appears cut and without gilding.
The images have been catalogued in the order of the list of captions which accompanied the prints, using the same wording. Although this sequence appears to take the 'visitor' randomly around the building and exhibits, it has been retained here since it may reflect the order in which Delamotte took the photographs.
