A file of material relating to 1-4 Vine Cottages, Upper Street, Shere. This row of cottages began life as a single dwelling, in the form of a medieval open hall house. The contents include: 7 black and white photographs dating in circa 1944 (photographer H Courlander) and 1962 (Kenneth Gravett); a building index report and index card. There are also two reports, both compiled by the Domestic Buildings Research Group (Surrey). The first report (D.B.R.G. No. 111), undertaken in 1983, is an investigation of numbers 1-2 Vine Cottages. It contains a written description, copies of artwork, copies of sketches and measured drawings. The second report (D.B.R.G. No. 111 Cont.), undertaken in 1994, details 3-4 Vine Cottages. It includes a written description and copies of measured drawings.
The second report ((D.B.R.G. No. 111 Cont.) was originally house seperately in Building File BF093167. This file has been deleted and its contents amalgamated with BF038409.
