Description

The site was established in 1908 as Brown-Firth research laboratories, a joint enterprise between the firms of John Brown and Firth's, two of Sheffield's largest steel manufacturers in the early 20th century. It was here that stainless steel was first developed in 1913. The building was later converted for use as a pewter works.
