Description

A virtual file of 23 photographs relating to Leyton Orient Football Club. The club was founded in 1881 as the Glyn Cricket Club and began playing football - under the name 'Orient' - in 1888. Initially they played at Glyn Road, before moving to Whittle's Athletic Ground in 1896. The club's name was changed to Clapton Orient in 1898. At around the turn of the century the club moved to a site adjacent to the Whittle's ground, at Millfields Road. This later became Clapham Stadium. Clapton Orient remained at Millfields Road until 1930. The club then moved to Lea Bridge Stadium, where they played until 1937 before moving to Osborne Road. In the 1940s, the club's name was changed to Leyton Orient (also commonly known simply as Orient). Their ground at Osborne Road was later known as Brisbane Road, or the Leyton Stadium. For sponsorship reasons, it has also been known as the Matchroom Stadium, Breyer Group Stadium, Gaughan Group Stadium, and the BetWright Stadium. In 2026, Leyton Orient's home ground remained Brisbane Road.
