A file containing five photographs depicting the F W Woolworth and Co store at 48-50 High Street, Colchester. Known as Woolworths store number 40, this was the fortieth branch of Woolworths to open in the British Isles, in September 1914. The original building was shared with Burtons, until 1935 when Woolworths took over their share of the freehold. The store burnt down in 1973 and had to be rebuilt; it finally closed in 1984.
