Description

A file containing 9 photographs depicting the F W Woolworth and Co store at Bank Hey Street, Blackpool. Known as Woolworths store number 66, this was the sixty-sixth branch of Woolworths to open in the British Isles. The store originally opened in April 1916 on the site of the Royal Market, adjacent to the Royal Hotel. By 1936 the Royal Hotel had closed and Woolworths took over the whole site. The company created a huge Art Deco store, which was at the time the largest Woolworths ever. In the 1980s the store closed and is now (2022) home to 'The Albert and the Lion', a Wetherspoons public house.
