A file containing twenty-one photographs depicting the F W Woolworth and Co store at 104-110 St James Street, Burnley. Known as Woolworths store number 160, this was the 160th branch of Woolworths to open in the British Isles, in 1924. The store first opened at 104 St James Street, in premises originally designed by Alfred Waterhouse for the Prudential Assurance Company in 1891. The store was extended three times, in 1927, 1935, and 1958. The last of these saw the demolition of the neighbouring buildings, including the Victoria Theatre, and the erection of a new purpose built buildings. In 1977 the store relocated to a new -build precinct store at 33 St James Street. It eventually closed in December 2008.
