Known as Woolworths store number 283, this was the two-hundred and eighty-third branch of Woolworths to open in the British Isles, in 1927. It was the fourth Woolworths store to open in Glasgow. The Wellington Arcade was demolished to make way for the new store. In 1929 the facade was rebuilt following a fire. The store also had a rear entrance on Renfrew Street.
