Description

A file containing 8 photographs depicting the F W Woolworth and Co store on the High Street, Congleton. Known as Woolworths store number 290, this was the two-hundred and ninetieth branch of Woolworths to open in the British Isles, in 1927. The store originally opened at 39 High Street. In 1968 Woolworths acquired 37 and 35 High Street, 35 being the Bears Head Hotel, and constructed a purpose-built store. The branch was the first to trial the Post Office franchise in the 1990s.
