Description

A file containing 11 photographs depicting the F W Woolworth and Co store on Penkhull Street (later renamed High Street), Newcastle-under-Lyme. Known as Woolworths store number 300, this was the three-hundredth branch of Woolworths to open in the British Isles, in 1928. At some point between 1952 and 1968 Penkhull Street was renamed High Street and the numbering changed. The store was rebuilt and extended to include the whole corner plot on the junction with Friars Street. It closed in January 2009.
