Description

A file containing 13 photographs depicting the F W Woolworth and Co store in Poplar, London. Known as Woolworths store number 302, this was the three-hundred and second branch of Woolworths to open in the British Isles, in 1928. The store originally opened on Chrisp Street and was later extended. The upper floor suffered bomb damage in the Second World War. In the 1950s, Woolworths moved to 10 Vesey Path, at the rear of the former store. Vesey Path was part of the Lansbury Estate built for the Festival of Britain in 1951. The store closed in December 2008.
