Description

A file containing 40 photographs depicting the F W Woolworth and Co store in Houghton le Spring. Known as Woolworths store number 488, this was the four-hundred and eighty-eighth branch of Woolworths to open in the British Isles, in 1933. The store originally opened in an existing building at 16 Newbottle Street (later 36 Newbottle Street). In 1964 Woolworths moved to a purpose-built store at 15 Newbottle Street.
