Description

Woolworth stores in the UK were given a numerical store number (eg, 144) whereas stores in the Caribbean or in Africa were sometimes given an alpha-numerical store code (eg, J2). Other non-UK stores do not appear to have been numbered at all. The store numbers have formed part of the archive object numbers under which the individual items in this collection have been catalogued.

In the cases where the we hold measured drawings for unidentified sites or for stores that were never finally built, measured drawings are catalogued under the four-digit 'store code' suffix '9999', followed by the archive item number.
