Description
Twenty-three reconstruction drawings and eight general illustration depicting Battle Abbey and the Battle of Hastings battlefield site, produced for reproduction in site guidebooks and other publications and/or on information panels placed at the sites themselves.
The illustrations include narrative reconstructions of key scenes from the Battle of Hastings, interior views of Battle Abbey, exterior views of the site in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and several modern-day illustrations of the overall site which serve as orientation maps.
Illustrators whose work is represented include Peter Dunn, Ivan Lapper, Peter Urmston, Terry Ball, Liam Wales, Jason Askew, Deborah Cunliffe, Mike Legg and Ruskell Kingston.
There is also one black and white preliminary sketch and some additional backup material, created by Peter Dunn, and one black and white sketch created by Terry Ball. These have not been catalogued at item level.
Eight reconstruction drawings of characters by Jodith Dobie have been catalogued at item level.
