Seventeen reconstruction illustrations depicting Etal Castle, the Battle of Flodden Field and individual soldiers from the battle, created between 1992 and 1998 by illustrators Ivan Lapper and Terry Ball. The set falls into two themes; illustrations by Lapper depicting the battle and individual soldiers, and illustrations by Ball depictin the castle and its structures.
There are ten reconstruction illustrations by Ivan Lapper depicting the Battle of Flodden Field in 1513. These were created between 1995 and 1998, and may have been commissioned for the Flodden Museum, which was housed in the converted former Presbyterian Chapel adjacent to Etal Castle. This may explain also why these drawings are housed with the main body of drawings concerning the castle itself.
There are a further seven illustrations created in 1992-1993 by Terry Ball, depicting Etal Castle as it may have appeared circa 1513, the year of its capture by the Scottish prior to the Battle of Flodden.
There are also sixteen black and white preliminary sketches, created by Terry Ball. These have not been catalogued at item level.
