Description

Nine reconstruction illustrations, one unpublished map and one orientation illustration depicting Lindisfarne Priory, the pre-Conquest monastery at Lindisfarne and related sites on Holy Island and Inner Farne in the nearby Farne Islands. The drawings were created between 1993 and 2005, and appear to have been commissioned for inclusion in various editions of the English Heritage guidebook series for Lindisfarne Priory (and Holy Island).

Three illustrations created by Peter Dunn in 1993 show structures at the Green Shiel early medieval farmstead and settlement located at the north of Holy Island. IC059/003 shows a seventh-century aerial view of St Cuthbert's hermitage on Inner Farne in the Farne Islands, located approximately seven miles south-east of Holy Island, and two further reconstructions also created by Dunn show views of the early medieval monastery at Lindisfarne.

There are also three reconstruction views of the post-Conquest priory church and associated structures at Linsfarne Priory, created by Terry Ball in 1988. Further illustrations created by Liam Wales in 2004 - 2005 give a modern-day aerial view of the site, with one a watercolour map of Holy Island and the Northumberland coastline, and the other showing the remains of the Priory. The latter was used as part of an orientation map in the 2005 English Heritage guidebook for Lindisfarne Priory, and in subsequent reprints of the edition.

There are also thirty-one black and white and four colour preliminary sketches and some additional backup material, created by Peter Dunn, and seven black and white sketches created by Terry Ball. These have not been catalogued at item level.
