Description

Thirty-eight reconstruction illustrations and five general illustrations depicting aerial and general views of Old Sarum, its component structures and the previous monuments occupying the site, as they may have appeared at various points in time from the Neolithic period through to the twentieth century. The illustrations include depictions of the Neolithic causewayed enclosure and related monuments that once occupied the site, the Bronze Age settlement and mouments, the Iron Age Hillfort, the Roman settlement of Sorviodunum and the development of the site throughout the medieval period. There are also a small number of detail reconstructions depicting people at the site throughout the periods stated above.

The illustrations were created between circa 1992 and 2006 by illustrators Peter Dunn, Terry Ball and Liam Wales; the majority of the drawings by Dunn. Many of the illustrations have been reproduced in English Heritage guidebooks for Old Sarum, on information panels located around the site and also perhaps in an exhibition at the site.

There are also eight black and white preliminary sketches, created by Peter Dunn, and two created by Terry Ball. These have not been catalogued at item level.
