Twenty reconstruction illustrations and fourteen general illustrations depicting the Tower of London and its component buildings, created between 1977 and 1991, largely by illustrator Terry Ball (with the exception of one illustration by Daniel Adderley and six by an unidentified artist). Most of the illustrations appear to have been created for inclusion in guidebooks for the site or for reproduction on information panels to be placed at the site. There are also a small number of design illustrations outlining proposed works at the site.
Reconstruction illustrations created by Terry Ball between 1977 and circa 1983 include aerial reconstructions of the entire site, depictions of the western entrance to the Tower (Lion, Middle and Byward Towers), reconstructions of St Thomas's Tower and the early river approach on the southern side of the castle, cut-away reconstructions of Broad Arrow Tower, Martin Tower, Salt Tower, Bell Tower, Legges Mount, Brass Mount, Tower Hill Postern, the Bloody Tower, West Inner Curtain Wall and Beauchamp Tower. There are also interior views of Martin Tower and Wakefield Tower.
There are a number of illustrations created in 1981-1982 that appear to outline proposed alteration works and building works at the site and in its immediate surroundings. Four drawings show proposed alterations to Wall Walk 2, with access dorways inserted into Lanthorn Tower to allow visitors to pass through the tower as part of the guided walk. There is a design drawing for proposed new ticket offices at the western end of the site, and also a view of Tower Hill from the north-west corner of the castle; this area is where the modern visitor facilities and ticket office are sited and the drawing is likely to have been part of a set of concept drawings outlining proposals for the development of the area.
There are also forty-nine black and white and nine colour preliminary sketches, created by Terry Ball, and some additional backup material. These have not been catalogued at item level.
