Photograph album containing 32 images of various factories built as part of the Elstree Laing Estate during the late 1930s and early 1940s. These include photographs of S. Smith and Sons (M.A.) Ltd, designed by architects T.P. Bennet and Son, including interior views of canteen and factory floor; exterior views of No. 1 factory for Messrs Caribonum Ltd, designed by Wallis Gilbert and Partners and including view of architectural model; factories 'A' and 'B' on Elstree Way for Noxal Ltd and Henderson Safety Tank Co. Ltd; the Royal National Lifeboat Institution on the Barnet By-Pass designed by architect Herbert Kenchington; various factories on Manor Way including Halliwell and Greenwood Ltd, Kenbar Electrical Co. and on Chester Road including Specialloid Ltd and Yardley Ltd; interior views of Kantex (Plastics) Ltd on Elstree Way showing men working rubber calender machine, press vulcanization shop and cork rubber mixing department; and exterior views of S. E. Opperman Ltd at Stirling Corner designed by architect Alwyn Gorbing.
Also included is an annotated aerial view of Elstree and view of sign advertising the sale and letting of factory plots on the 350 acre Elstree Laing Estate.
