Description

Photograph album labelled 'Power Stations : Nuclear : Balfour Beatty Progress 3' containing 80 black and white prints showing pumphouse, turbine house, outfall, administration block, workshop, intake structures and offshore structures such as the coffer dam and north baffle wall under construction. Also included are photographs showing men facing lining inside cooling water tunnel, interior views of turbine hall and man access shafts into coffer dams.

Berkeley Nuclear Power Station was the first commercial nuclear power station to be built in Britain. It was built for the Central Electricity Generating Board by A.E.I. - John Thompson Nuclear Energy Company Limited. John Laing and Son Limited and Balfour Beatty and Company Limited were contracted as civil engineers to work on the project.
