Description

Photograph album labelled 'Housing Early History' containing 62 black and white prints showing views of Little and Ballantyne's seed warehouse, Carlisle Gas Works, Mr Ryan's houses at Murrell Hill, Park Keeper's Lodge at Dacre Street, Carlisle, The Watson Institute at Castle Carrock, Eastriggs Houses Pretoria Road, Robinson Brother's (drapers and outfitters) shop, Labour exchange warehouse as well as images of Gretna township showing police headquarters, cinema, shops and housing (1919) and the Castle Picture House at Egremont.

Also included are photographs relating to history of the Laing family and the firm including view of Denton Street (the location of the company's first depot), photographs of Laing carts in yard, view of Laing's first built house at Sebergham as well as general views of landscape and buildings in Sebergham, image of mason and foreman, Robert Franklin's mallet and photographs of family gravestones.
