Description

Photograph album containing 52 black and white prints showing the construction of the CIS/CWS tower block of offices in Manchester. As well as general views showing the progress of construction and the completed building there are details showing a Gullick bursting cylinder being used on hard sandstone, the underpinning and construction of deep basement over existing air raid shelter, tunnelling, tower crane drivers and views from tower cranes, 'talking' information poster, view of architectural model and photographs of various staff who worked on the project.

At the time when it was built, the office tower block was the tallest in Europe.
