This album consists of 71 photographs depicting town, riverside and coastal scenes from across Devon. Coastal and river localities feature heavily, accounting for over half of the images in the album and include Brixham, Dartmouth, and Salcombe, as well as smaller villages such as Dittisham, Kingswear and Torcross. There are also images of tourist locations popular at the time in Dartmoor National Park including Roborough Rock, Bowerman’s Nose, Becky Falls and Spinster’s Rock. The photographs were taken by a number of well-known photographers and photographic companies from the time including Francis Frith and Company Limited (who captured 33 of the 71 images), James Valentine and Sons Limited, and Francis Bedford.
