The site has been catalogued under the generic name of Dartmouth Castle although some of the drawings refer specifically to the Tudor part and the Victorian battery. Where parts of the site are so defined, they have been mentioned in the drawing's title and classification scheme. Some sheets also show the adjoining St Petrox Church.
