Description

776 sheets ranging in date from 1875 to July 2003. There are several sheets from the late 19th century, the 1920s and the 1930s showing works to the abbey's north transept, along with general plans of the abbey and chapter house.

A series of plans of the abbey site from the mid 20th century show construction phases. There are several sheets from the 1960s forming part of a boundary survey.

From the 1970s and early 1980s there are a large number of plans and drawings relating to the design, construction and fitting-out of the abbey's new museum, including eight sheets produced by the Exhibitions Department of the Central Office of Information, relating to display spaces. There are also a group of plans relating to the refurbishment of the custodian's cottage.

There are topographic surveys of the site from March 1983 and August 1988, and photogrammetric surveys conducted between 1983 and 1990. There are also 161 photocopies, representing part of a photogrammetric survey made by Cumbria and Lancashire Archaeological Unity between 1985 and 1991.

Nine sheets taken from a 1983 survey have been annotated to show the location of temporary buildings and services for a concert on the abbey site. Several sheets dating from April 1988 show existing and proposed landscape features, and thirty-eight sheets from 1993 show details of mouldings.
