Detached house, now flats and car showroom. Late C18. Wing to
left on corner of Spa Road is ashlar, wing to right is rubblestone,
Welsh slate roof to left and ornamental tiled and stone slate roof
to right. L-plan, main front is to left return. 2 storeys, 3
windows. Central panelled and glass door up 3 steps has moulded
architrave and pediment on scrolled brackets enriched with acanthus
leaves. Either side is 12-pane sash in moulded case. Plat band to
first floor with three sashes in moulded cases. Rusticated quoins,
moulded cornice and parapet with balustraded panels. Right return
on Market Place has 2-storey canted bay with 12-pane sashes and
canted balustraded parapet over cornice. To right is rubblestone
wing of 2 storeys and attic, 3 windows. Ground floor has car
showroom inserted into front. First floor has central 16-pane sash
in beaded case with pair of 16-pane sashes either side. Three
gabled dormers with cresting and 16-pane sashes to roof. Rear of
showroom is rendered with C20 windows and inserted doors to flats,
to right is 2-storey ashlar canted bay with 12-pane sashes and
hipped roof with ball finial, to right and part of ashlar wng is
pair of sashes in beaded case with mullion to ground and first
floors, plat band. Cornice and blocking course with balustrade
continued from front. Flat-roofed C19 extension has sashes in
moulded cases.
Interior said to have good C18 staircase. Included despite C20
front alterations. Important position visually in the Market
Place.
