3/299 Parsonage Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse, C17, possibly on earlier core, rubble stone with concrete tile roofs. Two storeys and attic. Two main sections, L- plan house with projecting gable to left, and taller range attached to left. L-plan section has 2-light hollow-moulded recessed mullion window with hoodmould over door in plain chamfered surround to projecting gable. Coped gable. Two-window range to right has end stack, two first floor 2-light chamfered recessed mullion windows with hoodmoulds, ground floor 3-light hollow-moulded recessed mullion window and C19 gabled porch. Within porch is Tudor-arched earlier doorway. Single storey range of outbuildings to right connecting to former stable at right angles. Taller range to left has one 2-light first floor mullion window wth hoodmould, set to right of centre. End wall is refaced in C19 in ashlar with two sashes each floor. Rear has gable closely flanked by two stacks, attic single light and C20 window with original relieving arch and first floor blocked 2-light mullion window. A relieving arch in wall close to corner suggests that this section may have extended further. Rear of main range has chimney gable to right. Farm is associated with the medieval estate of the Bradford on Avon parsonage, granted at the Reformation to the Dean and Chapter of Bristol.
