THE CLOSE 1. 1594 No 8 SU 1429 NW 3/54 28.2.52. II* GV 2. Late C17 altered C18. Continuous wing and roof line of No 9 The Close qv. 2 storeys, attic and basement, colourwashed brick with brick hand between storeys. Gable end old tile roof, the eaves bracketed at 1 ft spacing. 3 leaded dormers casements. The fenestration to main floors altered in C18 with 4 windows on 1st floor and 2 to left on ground floor, flush architrave framed sashes, glazing bars intact. One C17 window remains to right hand on ground floor, 2 light leaded casement with stone mullion and transom, stone surround. Other traces of original windows: a blocked stone mullioned and transomed window to right on 1st floor, above 1st floor windows remains of stone heads the original ones. Off centre entrance with C19 glazed door with flat hood on cut brackets and approached by 6 stone steps with C18 guard rails, belled top standards. Basement has 3 2 light stone mullioned leaded casements. Large chimney red brick with irregular group of shafts to left hand of ridge.

All the listed buildings in the Close form an outstanding group.
