THE CLOSE 1. 1594 North Gate SlJ 1429 NW 3/23 28.2.52. I GV
2. C14 and Cl5. Perpendicular. 2 storey. Coursed stone. South front - large moulded 3 centred arch over roadway. 2 2-light stone mullioned casements with pointed arched lights on 1st floor flanking central niche with small side buttresses and carved canopy. Modern statue of King Edward VII in niche. The wall is crowned with moulded battlemented cresting, enriched with cusped panel ornament on a moulded string, and with shields in upper parts of battlements. The North front - much more elaborate with similar archway framed in rectangular drip mould with enriched spandrels and band of raised circles over, enriched with quatre foil panel treatment. 2 similar 1st floor windows flanking large central Coat of Arms. Miniature crenellation to C17 panelled oak gates. Port cullis removed.
All the listed buildings in the Close form an outstanding group.
