House. Early C17. Squared, coursed limestone with quoins and moulded coped
gables with finials. Stone slate roof with some imitation stone slates; ashlar
ridge and external stacks with moulded bases and flues linked by moulded
cornices. 2 storeys plus attic; 4-window range. H-shaped plan. To right of
recessed central bay a C20 plank door within moulded wood surround. Lead 'sun'
firemark on wood lintel. To left a 6-light, ovolo-moulded mullioned window with
king mullion. To first floor left, and to ground and first floors of flanking
gabled bays a 4-light, ovolo-moulded mullioned window with king mullion. Each
gable has a 3-light, ovolo-moulded mullioned window with further 2-light
mullioned windows to internal faces of gables. All mullioned windows have hood
moulds and label stops. To left of left gable a plain stone sundial. In apex of
each gable a moulded, recessed panel; any inscription is now illegible. 2 hipped
dormers. To left of building an early C20 'spinning gallery' linking house with
C18 outbuilding of stone with stone slate and tile roof and coped gables. To
rear a single chamfered light, and a 2-light ovolo-moulded mullioned window with
hood mould and label stops. Some original wood mullioned windows with wood
lintels, the remainder C20 imitation replacements. Original doorway to left,
corresponding to front entrance. Right gable wing extended early C20, with an
early C20 lean-to to side. Interior: right gable wing has spine beam with ogee
stops. Large open fireplace, with chamfered bressumer with ogee stops, extending
over C17 cupboard. Timber and plaster partition in passage, with C17 moulded
wood door. In central range a further open fireplace with chamfered stone
surround and chamfered timber bressumer with ogee stops. Chamfered spine beam
and joists, with ogee stops. In left gable wing a 4-centred stone fireplace with
moulded surround. Further C17 moulded doors, and timber and plaster partitions.
Dog-leg staircase with timber and plaster partition. To first floor 2 further
stone 4-centred fireplaces with moulded surrounds. All chamfered spine beams and
joists with ogee stops remain. C17 timber and plaster partitions and moulded C17
doors. Collars of C17 trusses visible in attic. Some timbers replaced.
