Stable block. South court mid C18 attributed to James Gibbs, north court and remodelled central block c.1780 attributed to James Wyatt (P. Leach). South court limestone ashlar, north court lias ashlar with limestone dressings. Slate hipped roofs with moulded stone cornice parapets and stone chimneys. South court rectangular, north court D-shaped, on sloping site. One storey and attic. 6-panelled doors and plank carriage doors. Sash windows and centre hung sashes to 1st floor. North court: continuous string course throughout, and quoins to projections. Symmetrical central block of 15 bays, 3:3:3:3:3. 4 doors with moulded stone doorcases, curving out at base, with cornices, set within arches. Centre has round archway with Gibbs surround and flanking niches, and 1st floor of oeil de boeufs and central square window. Pediment with clock across octagonal attic with oval openings and shallow hipped roof. Broader 3-bay section set back, central door with fanlight above doorcase and flanking sashes, and square windows above. End 3 bays again have central door, with Diocletian window above doorcase and flanking niches. 1st floor has 2 oeil de boeufs and central square window. Side wings of similar design. Semi- circle of 21 bays. 3-bay centre has vaulted archway with Gibbs surround and flanking windows, and oeils de beoufs to 1st floor. All other bays round arched: one archway through, remainder with Diocletian windows; 7 coach houses. Other bays with infill and subsidiary doors. To rear monumental 3-bay stone centre arch with panel above, and flanking bays breaking forward. Sashes with square window below and oeil de boeuf above. Big entablature with triglyph frieze carried across without a break, and a plain attic above. Remainder of brick. South court: central block of 9 bays. 3-bay, centre similar to north court front, but bays flanking arch break forward and have sashes with square windows below and to 1st floor. Pediment without a break. 3 broad bays each side, blind on high ground floor. Plain side wings of 9 bays with ridge stack. South range is a loggia of 14 Tuscan columns and entablature with triglyph frieze. Wall behind is plastered. Entrances in centre and each end have 6- panelled doors and 4 sashes, all in Gibbs surrounds, alternating with 8 blind oeils de boeufs. Similar entrances to ends of side wings. Interior: Stalls, hay racks etc intact. Central block has mid-C18 carved doorcases. South range of south court has vaulted room with Delft tiles to walls.
