Market Hall entrance. c1860, by John Clayton. Ashlar. Tower with through-passage. Semicircular arch and pilasters; vermiculation; figure-ead keyblock; frieze with triglyphs. 3 niches over, with light and flanking figures; armorial tablet under moulded arch. Clock tower with buttresses; bellcote with weather-vane; clock by J Smith & Sons, Midland Steam Clock Works, Derby. INTERIOR: brick, with plank doors under flat arches, to sides; screen, altered C20, with overlight with metal fanlight glazing.
