TQ 3024 NW CUCKFIELD SOUTH STREET (west side) 7/90 No 22 and No 23 10.9.51 GV II Pair of houses and shop. No 22 dated 1722 over doorway but probably C17 or earlier timber-framed building. Front Flemish bond red brick with grey headers. Side elevation tile hung on sandstone plinth. Half-hipped tiled roof with cruciform chimney stack. Brick band between floors. No 22 has 2 later casement windows on ground floor under original cambered brick arches. Central doorcase with swan's neck pediment, scrolls and date 1722, brick pilasters and moulded wooden architrave. 4 flush panelled door and C18 iron handrail. No 23 has 2 16-pane sashes with horns and central doorcase with flat wooden hood on brackets and 6 flush panelled door, the top 2 panels cut away and glazed. Left side C18 iron handrail. Mid C19 addition to No 23. Brown brick with tiled roof. 1 storey, built gable end to street. 32-pane C19 shop front with cornice above. Left side rectangular fanlight and 4 fielded panelled door. Plinth.
