Details

TQ 3024 NW CUCKFIELD HIGH STREET (west side) 7/43 Vine Cottage North Vine Cottage South II House, now house pair. Probable C16 timber-framed building with C17 crossing to south and C19 service extension to north, refronted c1920 and refenestrated mid C20. Stock brick with every 4th course red brick, tile hung gable ends and rear elevation and tiled roof. L-shaped building of 2 storeys and attics, 5 C20 metal casements. Large cement rendered coved eaves cornice. Modern door with flat wooden hood on brackets. Catslide roof to rear and 1 storey C19 red brick out- building with tiled roof. Modern flat roofed extension to south not of special interest. Interior contains C17 floor joists to kitchen and very wide floor-boards indicating a C16 date. Massive tie-beam set diagonally in attic probably inserted when crossing was added. Some square framing visible in crossing but framing in original part concealed.
