Nos 5 & 6 Egdean Cottages II
2 cottages formerly one house. No 6 is a timber framed building, C16 or earlier refronted in early C19. No 5 is C18, south front of No 6 is fronted in diaper patterned red brick with grey headers, west front is stone rubble with brick dressings and north elevation has a ground floor of stone rubble, the first floor rendered but sharing an upright post and curved brace suggesting the building is C16 or earlier. Brick lean-to on east side. Tiled roof, hipped and with gablet to one end, the other end having brick chimneystack. First floor has one 4-light and one 3-light casement. Ground floor has one 4-light casement in cambered surround and 1 single light casement also in cambered surround. Cambered doorcase with wooden architrave and plank door. Interior ground floor room has spine beam with 2 inch chamfer and lamb's tongue stop and remains of curved opening for an internal door. No 5 is C18. 2 storeys red brick to front elevation and diaperwork red brick with grey headers to rear. Tiled roof. 1 casement window with cambered surround. Plank doors. Interior has brick inglenook with wooden seat, 2 spice alcoves and curved wooden bressumer with run out stops. The spine beam and floor joists have chamfers and run out stops. Roof has ridge piece.
