The original home of the Sackville family stood here before they moved to Knole in Kent. This was built for Sir Richard Sackville before and comprised a complete courtyard. The principal remains of this comprise a stone gateway with a higher stair turret. Carriage archway through ground floor with four centred head. Two tiers of three light windows above on inner side. Flanking buttresses with finials. Castellated parapet. Part of the remaining house was pulled down in the early C17 and the materials used to build Sackville College at East Grinstead.
