Surrounding the new west entrance created by Basil Ionides in 1940 is a
semi-circular red brick courtyard decorated with stone terms, brought from
Ashley Park at Walton on Thames. On the west side, this is closed by a
stone balustrade which came from Chesterfield House, off Park Lane, by
Isaac Ware. In the centre is a C19 stone fountain which came from
Sir Robert Peel's house Drayton Manor in Staffordshire. This has a lower
basin with 3 figures of boys standing on shells and surrounded by 6 vases.
Central pedestal with 2 upper basins and, at the apex, another figure of a
boy with a swan.
