TRUMPETSHILL ROAD 1. 5388 (South Branch, South-West Side) (off) Ricebridge Farmhouse [formerly listed as Ricebridge Cottages (Nos 1 and 2), Reigate Heath] TQ 24 NW 25/66 19.10.51.

II*

2. Interesting early C17 house at time of transition from the Elizabethan H- or U-plan to the Jacobean flat-fronted, gabled facade. The roof plan is H-shaped, the facade flat with twin gables. Exposed timber-framing behind but a fashionable red brick front in a bond which alternates a straight stretcher course with a header-and-stretcher course: strong but primitive. Fairly high pitched tiled roofs, original bargeboards. 2 storeys and attic, 2 windows. Bands at both floor levels, stepped up over windows. Flat gauged brick 1st floor window arches; 4-centred relieving arches below. Raised brick borders to blank round panels in gables. 2 small windows near centre blocked soon after building. 2 plain boarded doors. Roof is stone-flagged on rear elevation. Small brick and stone cellar possibly later. Box edged formal garden in front looks coeval with house. Interior shows 2 bays of an open hall with a smoke bay.
